Summer has officially kicked off and what better time to present this years most essential accessories. Although some of these items may be a no-brainer, others are often overlooked and can really kick up your summer outfits to the next level. Let's take a close look.
1. Summer Friendly Headwear
Keep your head protected from the sun with one of these seasonal and trendy headwear pieces. We've experienced a sudden surge of popularity in baseball caps (also known as Dad Hats). That's right, say goodbye to flat brimmed hats, the curved brim is here to stay. Opt in for a clean silhouette with minimal to no branding in neutral colours. Even thrifting a washed out cap with vintage elements can work wonders.
Make sure your footwear reflects the weather this time of year. Although sneakers are still a very viable option, it's probably a good idea to keep the boots at home for the next few months. Nothing summer ready like a pair of quality flip-flops. Although most silhouettes will look very similar, there are a few different routes you can take with sandals. Differences in materials such as leather, classic buck and EVA are all factors you should consider before buying. Try and stay away from bright colours and rather opt in for a sleek unicolour. A few tips for when you decide to incorporate sandals into your wardrobe:
- Don't buy hiking sandals unless you're going hiking
- Never wear them with socks (rare exceptions can be made)
- Make sure your toenails are properly groomed
Everyone's favourite summertime accessory has got to be sunglasses. Something about putting on a pair of shades just inherently makes you feel like a badass, although that feeling doesn't always reflect the way you're wearing them. The first and most important rule of picking a quality pair of sunglasses is identifying a frame shape that suits your face type. Unfortunately with sunglasses, you can't just pick any frame and expect them to look good. Invest some time to figure out what your perfect frame shape is before you spend a considerable amount of money on some new shades.
Lens Crafters has an interactive guide which takes you through a step by step process of finding your perfect frame shape. Check it out here.

4. No-Show Socks
So you're about to put on some shoes on your way out but can't decide whether to wear socks or not. Thankfully with the introduction of no show socks (also known as ankle socks), you no longer have to be afraid of those thick socks sticking out of your shoes, or even worse, wearing your shoes with no socks. Ankle socks are perfect for the summertime when you feel like wearing your favourite kicks, but don't want to ruin the look with regular socks.
Rings and necklaces are great statement pieces and are far too often overlooked by men. We're not talking about those shark tooth necklaces from your elementary school years. Opt for something simple and sophisticated such as a long chain pendant necklace. Also don't feel as if you can't wear more than one necklace. Layering multiple necklaces can really give you some rockstar vibes this summer. Rings are also a fantastic way to stand out this summer.
While we recommend all of the above accessories, it is important to know how to put it all together. Throwing everything listed into one outfit is not going to look great. Use one or two of the pieces here and there in your current outfits for maximum impact.
