We are pleased to introduce Kenzo Footwear to our Robson, Oakridge and Metropolis retail stores for Spring 2016. Here's a closer look into the Parisian brand's interesting history:
The Kenzo brand was founded in 1970 by Japanese designer Kenzo Takada (with menswear introduced in 1983). It quickly gained popularity for its mix of Asian/Japanese influence with high-end European craftsmanship. Kenzo Takada was greatly inspired by jungle scenery and wildlife, and named his first boutique 'Jungle Jap', which was full of jungle-inspired decor. The Kenzo brand was known for its rich lively use of prints and jungle-inspired motifs.

In 2012, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, founders of Opening Ceremony, were named creative directors of Kenzo. They were set out to reinvigorate the iconic brand by reinventing Archival prints/inspirations with a modern twist. In Fall 2012, the modernized tiger head (inspired from early prints of Kenzo Takada) was introduced, becoming an instant hit, and has now become eponymous with the brand. Other successful prints include the Eye (introduced in Fall 2013), the Flying Tiger (introduced in Fall 2013), and the Flying Logo (introduced in Spring 2015).
