Ok so you've been invited to a dinner party, or it's date night and you're looking for the right outfit. Not too worry, we've created a guide to help you look appropriate no matter the dinner occasion. All of these different looks can be used as date night outfits, night out outfits, or can even make the perfect party outfit so don't be afraid to try them all.
The first thing you'll want to figure out is what type of dinner party it is that you will be attending. Your outfit can widely differ depending on if it's your best friends birthday party, or if it's date night with your significant other. You probably won't need to wear a blazer to your friends barbecue the same way you'll want to stay away from t-shirts and shorts if you're attending an anniversary dinner. Continue reading below to discover different looks for every occasion.
Suit & Tie

The most formal option out of them all is the classic suit and tie combo. A suit and tie combo can be the perfect dinner ensemble as long as the event is formal. The last thing you want is to be the only guy at a dinner party with a suit on. Opt in for this combo if you're celebrating an anniversary with your significant other or perhaps if you've been invited to an upscale diner. The suit and tie combo is versatile because if you start to get too hot, you can always layer down to your dress shirt. You can even take it further by rolling your sleeves up (the proper way) for an instantly more casual look.
T-Shirt & Jeans
There's nothing better than being comfortable at a dinner party. The t-shirt and jeans route is perfect if you're attending your friends barbecue or an informal dinner party. Any pair of jeans can be appropriate (as long as they're clean) however, we recommend opting in for a nice pair of stone washed slim fit jeans such from brands such as Fidelity Denim or Nudie Jeans.
Blazer and Jean Combo
This next option is perfect if you're not quite sure what the occasion is. With the blazer and jacket combination, you're covering both formal and relaxed for a smart casual look. Grab a black, blue, or grey suit jacket and combine it with a pair of deep indigo jeans and a pair of smart shoes and you're good to go no matter the occasion. Note that the jeans can be swapped out for a pair of seasonal coloured chinos. Making this small change makes your overall outfit lean more towards the formal side. Check out Scotch & Soda and Naked & Famous for high quality chino pants.
